The Journalism Department of Ondokuz Mayıs University's Faculty of Communication was established on February 1, 2010. With rapid advancements in communication technologies, the need for qualified intellectuals who can combine intellectual knowledge with practical experience has also increased. In this context, as is the case worldwide, communication faculties in Türkiye play a crucial role in training these qualified individuals. Acting with this responsibility, the Journalism Department of Ondokuz Mayıs University's Faculty of Communication aims to train journalists and media professionals who have internalized press ethics and universal values and possess critical thinking skills.
In addition to specializing in journalism, the department adopts an interdisciplinary educational approach encompassing disciplines such as public relations and publicity, radio and television, cinema, sociology, philosophy, political science, and law. In addition to this interdisciplinary approach, departmental courses are structured with both theoretical and practical considerations. Students are encouraged to acquire theoretical knowledge about the fundamental concepts of communication sciences and journalism, the historical development of communication systems, the fundamental principles of the journalism profession, and ethical values. Additionally, the faculty provides a photography studio, radio studio, Mac lab, computer lab, and newsroom to provide students with opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge.
Using this technical infrastructure, students began publishing a newspaper called "Genç İfade" in the 2014-2015 Academic Year.
1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, 2 Lecturers, 1 Assistant Research Assistant and 2 Research Assistants work in the Department of Journalism.
